Secondary schools across Cameroon are set to resume classes on Monday, April 27, 2026, following a temporary suspension of academic activities due to the recent visit of the Pope. The government had earlier announced a short break to allow for adequate security arrangements and to enable citizens, including students and staff, to participate in or observe the historic religious event.
During the visit, several major cities experienced increased movement, public gatherings, and heightened security measures, making it necessary to pause normal school operations. Education authorities have now confirmed that the situation has stabilized, and all institutions are expected to reopen as scheduled.
School administrators have been advised to ensure a smooth continuation of lessons and to make necessary adjustments to cover any lost academic time. Teachers are also encouraged to support students in catching up with missed work to maintain the academic calendar.
Parents and guardians are urged to prepare their children for a prompt return to school. The Ministry of Secondary Education reassures the public that all measures have been taken to ensure a safe and conducive learning environment for students nationwide.
